Important Information
- We’ve created this tour specifically for seniors who enjoy walking, enjoying the stunning scenery, and interacting with the local community. However, the tour route is subject to change due to local conditions and your comfort while trekking with us
- To explore some places in the interior of the traditional villages through the villager’s footpath. It maybe muddy, puddles and crossing wooden bridges. Prepare yourself for all possibilities that may occur.
- This tour cannot be done from 1st July to 30th August due to the limited number of Guides in our Company.
- Transport used: Minibus Non Air condition

Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival In Wamena – Explore North Of Baliem Valley (-/L/-)
Upon arrival at Wamena airport transfer to Baliem Pilamo Hotel. We begin our tour to Kumugima in direction to the northern part of the Baliem Valley. Few kilometers from Town by drive to Aikima & Kumugima village to explore the Local traditional people of baliem valley. Along the way you will find the Danis working in their sweet potatoes fields and will see their daily activities and learn about their way of life in Suroba. Walk through the pine forest, enjoy the beautiful nature setting and crossing a bridge over Aike river before you arrive at the main road where the car is waiting for you. We will hike in 1-2 hours through the beautiful countryside and traditional houses of Dani people. Continue to Sumpaima, In Sumpaima village we will see a very old mummy of the famous Dugum clan is proudly presented for your viewing. In the vicinity we will see more picturesque hamlets. Everywhere the friendly natives offer their arts and crafts, weapons and curiosities for our inspection. Stop in the traditional local market & Napua, Late afternoon drive back to the Hotel, Dinner will be on your account. Accommodation in the hotel (Walk approx. 1-2 hours).
Day 02: Trekking To Wesangma (B/L/D)
Breakfast at hotel, we will use a 4WD car to go to one of the villages in the southern part of the Baliem Valley which will take around 1,5 hours. This is a new road that has been open since 2021. Along the road we can see a very enchanting panorama of the Baliem Valley until we reach the village we are going to, namely Syokosimo village. On the way to Syokosimo we can stop for a moment to straighten us out and enjoy the beauty of mountains or take pictures. From Syokosimo village we will walk on the footpath for 2-3 hours along the Mugi River while enjoying stunning views of the hills. Depending on your abilities, this village is very close to the previous village and can be reached in 30 minutes by local people. In the afternoon we can visit local people to interact with them. Lunch in box is provided and dinner are prepared. We stay overnight in people’s houses or guest house in this village using sleeping bags and mattresses. (Walk approx. 2-3 hours).
Day 03: Trekking To Kilise (B/L/D)
Breakfast, On the way to Kilise we can stop for a moment to straighten us out and enjoy the beauty of mountains or take pictures, we will walk on the footpath for 1-2 hours along the Mugi River while enjoying stunning views of the hills. Cross anothersuspension bridge.
After we successfully arrived at the other side of the river, then hike up to 1 hour to Kilise. You will encounter and greeted by the Dani people who work in their steep sweet potato garden.
In the evening we can visit local people to interact with them. Lunch in box is provided and dinner are prepared. We stay overnight in people’s houses or guest house in this village using sleeping bags and mattresses. (Walk approx. 2-3 hours).
Notes and important information:
The suspension bridge is approximately 30 meters long and is damaged, we have to be extra careful when crossing it. Where you have to hold your breath for a few minutes to cross it. If it is not possible to cross the bridge then we have to change the route to another village as a substitute or direction to Kilise.
Day 04: Trekking To Anjelma (B/L/D)
We are now in other side of baliem river, as the view from the village is very different from the view on the first and second days. Today’s journey is generally flat, we will walk through sweet potato fields and pass several houses of the Dani tribe until we reach Anjelma village. You will not miss the moment with the beautiful scenery when looking towards the Baliem River from a distance. In the afternoon we will invite you to visit the local people’s homes to learn about their way of life and culture. We stay overnight in local people’s houses in this village using sleeping bags and mattresses. (Walk approx. 2-3 hours).
Day 05: Trekking To Yetni River – Wamena (B/L/-)
After breakfast continue walk to Yetni for 2 hour. Today we can work more leisurely than the previous day because the distance is shorter and the condition of trail is always down, later after reach a river, we still need one hour more to reach lower-Yetni river where our car waiting for us. All trekking trips from the first day to today will depend greatly on weather condition and physically abilities of all the participants. From the car stops before the afternoon we will be taken to the city for 1 hour Journey directly to your accommodation. Dinner will be on your account. Stay in Baliem Pilamo Hotel. (Walk approx. 2-3 hours).
Day 06: Mock Battle / Traditional Dance (B/L/-)
In the morning we drive up to Jiwika. A special welcome will be given to you upon your arrival in the Village; the tribe member will assemble wearing their best outfit to show their appreciation. A special “Mock Battle” is one of the most interesting exhibitions you will see on traveling to Papua. Photographer has said that this unique event cannot be described by words alone. We could spend 2-3 hours stay in the village while to learn their tradition & way of life of Dani people. Lunch boxes is prepared in the village.
Day 07: Wamena - Jayapura Departure (B/-/-)
the flight early in the morning, After breakfast, transfer at 06:00 am to airport for your flight to Jayapura at schedule at 07:00am. By direct flight for Sorong, Makasar, Jakarta or Denpasar.
