Wamena was a point of departure for many expeditions. The Dani villages are visited by virtually every tourist who sets out in west Papua. Some villages even show their original customs and hold mock wars. Another thing which brought fame to the Dani tribe are the several hundred years old ”smoked” mummies of famous tribesmen. Three of them can be seen in the Baliem valley – in Akima, Pumo and Jiwika villages. Baliem valley area inhabited by the Dani people tribe, is the most fertile part of the highland covering the west of the New Guinea Island – Papua (Irian Jaya). Baliem Valley lies about 1600 m above the sea level, and it is surrounded by a crest of mountains some of which reach up to 4500 m.

Tree house tribe of Korowai
KOROWAI TRIBE always moves from one place to another in order to be close to the foods and hunted animals provides by nature. Korowai and Kombai are hunter and gatherer who move and build a new tree house once every 3 years. For this reason we do not fix the place of our destination or what activities we do day by day. We will arrange our visit to the place where the feast will serve a lot of foods including the most delicacy “Sago Grub” to the invited guests and every one will put on their best wear and dancing. The adventure in the Tree house tribe of korowai territory – The walking adventure is mostly through the dense jungle, swampy, and we sometime walking up the single log. Sometime our porter will free their hand to help you in the hard or difficult trail. The Korowai tribes live in the jungle only with their family or relatives, as they never stay in one big compound. We can found 2 or 3 Tree house in one camp only. Caused they are nomad peoples and they never life for such a long time in the one places, they have to moved to one and another places to get more food and animals to be hunt. We will stay with Korowai in their bevak or we build a tent or up the tree house if permitted.
Mamberamo river, flora & fauna
The Mamberamo is a name a river in the province of Papua formerly was Irian Jaya or west Papua. It is the largest river in Papua province Indonesia by volume of discharge, and also the widest.
The river’s huge valley is home to various un-contacted peoples and incredible biodiversity. The Mamberamo area also broadly refers to several nearby mountain ranges, including the Van Rees and Foja Mountains, which were the subject of a recent rapid biological assessment conducted by Conservation International. Lorentz National Park
Lorentz National Park is a national park located in Papua, Indonesia, in the southwest of western New Guinea. With an area of 25,056 km2 (9,674 mi2), it is the largest national park in southeast Asia. In 1999 Lorentz was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
An outstanding example of the biodiversity of New Guinea, Lorentz is one of the most ecologically diverse national parks in the world. It is the only nature reserve in the Asia-Pacific region to contain a full altitudinal array of ecosystems ranging through marine areas, mangroves, tidal and freshwater swamp forest, lowland and montane rainforest, alpine tundra, and equatorial glaciers. Whale Shark in Cenderawasih Bay - Papua
Incredible experience snorkeling with whale sharks. I went on this tour from Bali, which was not an easy journey to Nabire – 3 planes there 2 planes back, exhausting! But I can say without hesitation that it was totally worth all the effort, truly a once in a lifetime experience with Jefalgi Papua Tours. Arriving in Nabire town, I felt a little uneasy because people really stare.. but I think this was due to the fact that they don’t see many tourists. It’s also possible I have a little extra paranoia. I am a solo female traveler so I had lots of safety related queries – but from the beginning the company were in touch on whatsapp. My guide met me at the airport and talked me through the itinerary. He then drove me around town to a couple of places so I could choose where I was most comfortable to stay for the that night in Nabire. They spoke great English which is nice as many people do not in this region. In the morning we travelled to Cenderawasih Bay, which was a couple of hours journey – first by car and then by boat. The little wooden lodgings was so pretty, it was nestled on a stunning coral coastline against the rainforest.
Raja Ampat West Papua
According to the Conservation International Rapid Assessment Bulletin, the marine life diversity for scuba swim in West Papua is considerably greater than all another areas sampled in the coral polygon of Indonesia, state and island New Guinea – the cream of the cream in world diving. Over 1,200 fish species – a world achievement 284 on one azygos dive at Kofiau Island, the criterion figure for an excellent dive site of 200 fish species surpassed on 51% of Raja Ampat dives (another world record), 600 coral species, 699 invertebrate species – again another world high. The term “Frontier Diving” seems to have been invented for raja ampat in west papua.
